Why is this important?

The Ukrainian civil society sector experienced the crises of 2014–2024, including a pandemic, a full-scale invasion, economic challenges, and waves of forced displacement. However, it continues to grow, adapt, and play a key role in the country's democratic resilience.

While 75,828 civil society organizations were registered in the country in 2015, their number had reached 105,908 by January 1, 2025. An increase of more than 30,000 organizations is evidence of growing confidence in their activities. But does this mean that the sector has become more resilient? Or is it still in survival mode?

During the expert discussion, you will have the opportunity to learn:

- how the resilience of civil society organizations has changed over 10 years;

- about the advocacy capacity of civil society organizations: has the dialogue between CSOs and the authorities changed;

- about the public visibility of CSOs and their presence in the media: how has the full-scale invasion affected this;

- how the war has affected the financing of the sector;

- what challenges are currently observed in regional CSOs.

Speakers include:

  • Valeriia Skvortsova, Executive Director of the Ukrainian Center for Independent Political Research (UCIPR),
  • Maksym Latsyba, Head of the Civil Society Development Program at the Ukrainian Center for Independent Political Research
  • Vadym Miskyi, Program Director at Detector Media, Member of the Supervisory Board of Public Broadcasting
  • Kostiantyn Kvurt, Chairman of the Board at Internews Ukraine
  • representative of a regional civil society organization.
