UCIPR Launches Research for the 2025 Civil Society Organization Sustainability Index

The Ukrainian Center for Independent Political Research (UCIPR) is launching work on the "Civil Society Organization Sustainability Index" research, which will monitor the state of CSOs for the year 2025. The project will be implemented with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation.

The research is based on a comprehensive analysis using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Project experts assess the state of civil society according to seven key indicators that cover various aspects of its viability:

  1. Legal Environment
  2. Organizational Capacity
  3. Financial Viability
  4. Advocacy
  5. Service Provision
  6. Sectoral Infrastructure
  7. Public Image

The results of the Index will be useful for donor and international organizations, government representatives, civil society organizations, and the academic community to track the dynamics of civil society development in Ukraine, identify trends, and make informed decisions regarding CSO support.

Additionally, data for each indicator will be presented on the charts of an interactive dashboard, which visualizes changes in the development of the civil society sector in Ukraine from 2014 to 2024.

Furthermore, within the framework of the project and in partnership with the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA), an information campaign is planned to help improve the public image of CSOs.

It should be noted that the "Civil Society Organization Sustainability Index" project is a continuation of the Civil Society Organizations Sustainability Index—an international study assessing the sustainability of CSO development. The study was developed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the international organization FHI 360, together with the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL), in 73 countries worldwide.

After 2023, when the project was concluded at the international level, the Ukrainian Center for Independent Political Research, with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation, decided to continue assessing the sustainability of Ukraine's CSOs.
